AUM has been a Montgomery landmark since its inception in 1967. With currently just over 5,000 students, Auburn Montgomery has grown to be the largest higher education institution in the capitol city. It has historically been treated by many students as simply a “stepping stone” to the main campus in Auburn. However, things have changed at AUM over the past few years, and more students are beginning to settle on campus and make it their own.
Despite the recent growth, AUM is still considered by many as a “commuter campus” with only a few on campus dormitories. Therefore, the challenge is this: how do you create and maintain authentic community on a commuter campus? Can it be done? We believe the answer is “yes.” Man was created to live in community with one another and the college campus is no exception. While many students may come and go to take classes, others are joining fraternities/sororities, active in intramurals, competing on national ranked tennis teams, taking part in “college bowl,” or enjoying similar culture among other internationals. Grace University Fellowship desires to create a community of many different sub-communities built upon the cornerstone of Jesus Christ. While we unapologetically call ourselves “an arm of the church,” we don’t desire to be a holy huddle or “Christian glee club.” Rather we welcome all skeptics, seekers, doubters, and curious folk to investigate the claims of Christ with us!
